As someone who has previous for booking shit-hole accommodation, I was pleasantly surprised that the hostel that I'd booked was rather charming and quaint. They even had an old rotary phone which I had to use to order a taxi. Not sure whether to be flattered that I was asked whether I knew how to use one of these antiquated devices!
Prince Rupert is a major ferry port and train terminus, but unless you like chasing fish, there isn't a huge amount to do. I did visit the Kwinitsa Railway Museum, which was the station masters old house that they shipped up the river on a barge a few years ago. It wasn't very big, but it was like stepping back in time and worth the visit.
I even found the train I came in on |
The ferry from Prince Rupert to Vancouver Island takes you down the Inside Passage and through some beautiful scenery, although there wasn't as much variation as on the train.
At one point, the captain announced a nearby pod of whales,
and as the every passenger rushed to the one side of the ferry, we luckily didn't
capsize. Sadly the whales were a bit far off but I did manage to get a picture
of it blowing through its hole.
The boat didn't get in till around midnight, and because every single car
needs to be dropped off before the foot passengers can get off, it was gone 1
o'clock by the time I got to my accommodation on Vancouver Island ...
And I'm sure National Geographic will pay top dollar for this picture |
