Part 9 - Return to NOTL and lots of waterfalls

When it's the middle of the night and you've had no sleep, it's slightly terrifying to be chased slowly round an airport by a mobile cleaning unit. After Air Canada cancelling my flight and not telling me, then getting the completely wrong bus (who'd have thought that the number 20 to Hamilton would actually go in the opposite direction to Hamilton), I still managed to get "home" at the scheduled time.

Of course, the major attraction in Niagara - apart from my aunt of course (Hi Jackie) - is Niagara Falls.

The Maid of the Mist. Now named after Nikola Tesla.
.
The American falls. Not as impressive as the Canadian one over the road.

Although I've visited a few times, they've opened up a couple of new attractions - a decommissioned hydroelectric power station and a tunnel near the falls. The tour guide for the power station was very knowledgeable about the history of the site, the involvement of Nikola Tesla, and the reasons why it is no longer used. Despite the fact that it could be unbearably hot, jobs here were highly sought-after.

The tunnel at the power station offers more spectacular views of the Falls, without needing to get utterly drenched. It gives you great views of the Falls and offers you a free yellow raincoat ...

Just chillin' with my coven ...

Other things that NOTL is famous for are its many many wineries, THREE fruit festivals (strawberry, cherry, and peach) - all of which I managed to miss, and the playwright George Bernard Shaw, although as far as I can tell, he never actually visited the place. Every year, they put on some of his plays and they have a rather fine status to him on the main street. I have no statistics to back this up, but I estimate this street has more tourists per square inch than any other street in Canada.

Managed to drop Rabbie in the fountain taking this photo. Still, he needed a wash.

Also took a trip to the rather oddly-named Ball's Falls - which consists a lot of 19th century buildings you're sadly not allowed to access, and two falls - neither of which are quite as impressive as Niagara's.

Coming soon. My trip to the Rockies and Vancouver...
