Part 7 - Driving through California ...

After the highs of Death Valley and the lows of an absolute dive of a motel in Bakersfield, it was time to drive to The Big Sur (the California coast road). En route, I stopped off at the spot where James Dean died in a car crash. The memorial site appeared to double as an impromptu rubbish tip.

No trip to the California coast would be complete without a visit to the elephant seal sanctuary, where the seals enjoy sunbathing, galumphing, and bamming each other up.

This one definitely fancied me

The weather on the Big Sur itself seemed to fluctuate between sunshine and "dreich" every few miles. As picturesque as it was, I'd say the Antrim Coast Road just edges it, on account of its hairpin bends and perilously steep hills.

I stayed in a lovely wee hotel in Silicon Valley so I could try the only parkrun in California, at Byxbee Park (Which I believe lends its name to Samsung's incredibly annoying answer to Siri, Bixby).
Unbeknownst to me, the parkrun seemingly doubled as an Olympic trial and I finished halfway down the pack.
"Feel the legs like two great steam locomotives, pumping away.
I'm Cram, I'm Ovett, I'm unstoppable..."

I also had a few hours to pop into the Computer History museum which is well worth a visit, even if you've only got a passing interest in computing.

I used to have one of these as a kid

Sadly, I never had one of these

Surprisingly, this left-handed keyboard never caught on
