Part 15 - Vancouver

Vancouver really is a very nice place. Not only is it very clean and friendly, but you've also got big massive mountains to the North to set it apart from your everyday flat cities (I'm looking at you Toronto). Of course, because it's a nice city, everyone wants to come here and the accommodation is extortionate, therefore my hostel was a bit of a shit-hole. My room was hotter than the surface of the sun and its only window looked into the living room. There were also weird beasties I'd never seen before emerging from under the bed.

That aside, I can see why so many people want to live here. This is was the view across the False Creek towards Granville Island (click to expand).

Granville Island is filled with eateries and gift shops. It also had street performers like this guy...
... and a bit of a pirate problem ...

I've no idea what this was but it was delicious

Elsewhere, I got to meet up with my old "boss" (she hated me calling her that) and her husband who kindly took me out for lunch.

Just round the corner, I encountered the world's most disorganised bookshop, although apparently the owner (pictured) had an encyclopaedic knowledge of every book in there - even the books hidden behind other books.

The world's messiest bookshop and a fatter version of me

Stanley Island is a famous area of Vancouver, and reflected in the fact, that it was absolutely crawling with tourists. The aquarium was excellent, and as well as the usual array of fishy types, seals, penguins, and "Frogworld".

Weirdos

And I thought the Little Mermaid was in Copenhagen

Due to my flight being delayed the best part of a day, I only had a couple of days in Vancouver, but I'd love to go back. But as I was to discover, Vancouver isn't even the nicest city in Canada. Next up ... Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island.
