Part 10 - Edmonton - A tourist paradise

I got a few raised eyebrows when I was deciding whether to spend a few nights in Edmonton. "What's in Edmonton?" came the cry. So I decided to find out ...

After putting a major dent in the travel budget, for this trip, I decided to try hostels instead of swish hotels, albeit with my own room (except for one night). First up was Hi Hostel which really was brilliant. Clean, super friendly staff, free breakfast, and even a library, cinema room, and for some reason, a half-sized TT table. Lovely stuff. Unfortunately, I hardly took hardly any pictures in Edmonton, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Here's a squirrel that took up residency outside my window.

Edmonton Science World was much better than its Glaswegian counterpart, mainly because all the exhibits worked. A lot of it was aimed at the three million kids that were also there, but there was an excellent section devoted to the Apollo moon landings, and told the story about the Space Race between the USA and the USSR, as well as the possibility of future missions.

He's there if you look closely ...

I also took a trip to the largest shopping centre mall in North America, which like the East Kilbride shopping centre, boasts an ice rink. Unlike the East Kilbride shopping centre, it also boasts a massive pirate ship, amusement park, casino, swimming pool with dozens of flumes, and more shops anyone really needs. It also has parking spaces for more than 20,000 cars. And the only thing I managed to get a picture of that day was this ...

I waited more than an hour but didn't get a kiss. Or a ride.
But at least I didn't get lifted for solicitation.

And this will only be of interest to Alan Partridge fans, but Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank is actually a thing now.
Next up. The bus to Jasper.
