Part 3 - Welcome to Niagara-on-the-Lake!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a picturesque and quaint town on Lake Ontario and is literally a stone's throw away from New York State. It is home to around 18,000 ex-pats, seemingly millions of tourists, and perhaps one or two people actually born in Canada.

It is also home to my dear Aunt Jackie!

Jackie has a lovely wee condo near the town centre. And I've got my very own room in the dungeon basement.

Despite the serial killer vibes, it's cool and very comfortable!

For some reason, there are not one, not two, but THREE local newspapers flung on your lawn each week. They are half filled with adverts for estate agents, and it appears to be the law that you can't sell you house without a mug shot of the person selling it ...

One of whom really shouldn't be allowed to write his own adverts ...

NO HASSELS.

Niagara-on-the-Lake was the location of the Battle of Fort George between the USA and Great Britain back in 1813. And in 2022, another fierce war has broken out over Pickleball, a slowed-down version of tennis played mainly by older people. All three newspapers have been providing week-by-week updates ... here's a summary of events so far:

1. Pickleball is quite a noisy sport and one local resident complains.

2. An acoustics engineer is wheeled out, and declares that the noise of the racquets exceeds noise regulations by 27 decibels.

3. It all ends up in court. Pickleball association is fined $2,000 and the sport is banned for two years.

3. One of the local rag's editorial column publishes a poem about "Pickleball Karen".

4. People angrily accuse the local paper of bullying a private citizen.

More on this story as it emerges.
